I'm Dr. Maria Bianchi, a Board Certified Family Medicine Physician and Sports Medicine Fellow, using my journey of practicing medicine with purpose to help the next generation of physicians build meaningful careers and know they don't have to walk this path alone.
About
I'm an International Medical Graduate who completed Family Medicine residency before pursuing Primary Care Sports Medicine fellowship in the United States. I'm building the kind of career I once needed to see modeled for me. Here, I share my experiences and the honest parts of the journey most people leave out.
My path didn't follow a straight line, and at first I didn't have easy access to mentors who could show me the way. I found guidance where I could, built my own network, and have grown my career from there.
My work now sits at the intersection of Sports Medicine, Family Medicine, Global Health, advocacy, and mentorship. I'm involved with organizations like the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM), the World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA), and Project IMG. I care about making the path clearer for the physicians coming up behind me, especially other IMGs navigating the same uncertainty I once did.
I believe medicine is more than a job. It's a platform to lead, serve, advocate, and mentor. Everything I share is meant to widen the picture of what a career in medicine can look like.
